Workshopbeschreibung:

Participants in this workshop can improve their ability to write academic texts in English. We consider models of academic writing and discuss how standards differ from field to field. We reflect on grammar and style issues that challenge writers who have German as a first language. Along the way we apply a widely used standard for abstracts as well as introduction, method, results, discussion and conclusion sections. Language associated with each element is introduced. In class writing practice includes creating an abstract, describing the visual display of quantitative information, extending arguments, drawing conclusions, and creating titles and headings. Participants are asked to bring personal writing samples with them and to apply the results of discussions to their own writing.
