Long-term writing projects like advanced term papers and theses often challenge our existing approaches to the writing process, confounding us as strategies that previously worked like a charm no longer help. This workshop addresses this common experience, introducing participants to a research process appropriate for these long-term, complex writing projects. We'll discuss narrowing a topic, developing a research question, finding and managing research literature, effective note-taking practices, and using sources to develop your project and arguments. Throughout the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to work on their own writing projects.
Note: “The Writer's Process for Advanced Students (EN)" would be a helpful follow-up to this workshop. It builds on this course's approach to long-term research projects but focuses on managing a successful writing process.
Participants should have experience writing research-based academic texts. This workshop was designed with advanced students (e.g., students in the final stages of their Bachelor studies, MA students, and thesis-writers) in mind.
