Writing well in most English academic genres means arguing well. But what makes an effective, sophisticated argument? How do writers develop good arguments and evaluate their weak spots? How do writers communicate arguments to audiences convincingly?
We'll be guided by these questions as we explore argumentation in English academic writing and address key concerns students have about writing argumentatively, namely: developing a significant and original position, structuring thesis-based arguments, and integrating secondary materials. Over the course of the workshop, participants will analyze and evaluate exemplary student writing and will have the space to work on current writing projects.
The workshop will be conducted in English, will make use of English language materials, and will be led by a native English speaker (a U.S. American).
Paper and something to write with.
All students from the 3rd semester can register for this workshop, or new MA students. (This workshop was designed for students who have some experience writing in academic English.) Prerequisites for participation are your presence during the entire duration of the workshop and active participation. The workshops of the writing center can be used for the optional modules of some subjects. You will receive a proof of participation from us; the credit would be distributed by the department.
