Term Papers for Beginners

Description

Term papers are among the most important writing assignments at university. However, many students, especially at the beginning of their studies, find it difficult to meet the demands of planning and writing a term paper. While writing, many students grapple with questions like: How do I find a suitable topic? How do I formulate an appropriate research question? How do I structure a term paper? What exactly does it mean to write “academically"? How can I ensure that my text meets all academic criteria while still being easy to read?

This workshop will teach you how to approach writing a term paper effectively and how to solve any problems that may arise during the writing process. To this end, we will discuss the individual steps involved in academic writing and introduce various writing tools and techniques. Throughout the workshop, you will have the opportunity to try out different techniques in practical exercises. Finally, we will reflect on participants' experiences together.

Requirements

All students can participate in this workshop. In order to receive a certificate, you must attend the entire workshop and actively participate. The events of the Writing Center can be credited to you for the optional modules of many subjects. You will receive a certificate of participation from us; the credit will be awarded in the respective subject itself.

Accessibility

Are there ways we can make it easier for you to participate in our workshops (e.g., by taking regular short breaks, using a large font size in our presentations, sending you the presentations with image descriptions in advance, etc.)? Please contact us as early as possible at schreibzentrum@uni-frankfurt.de, stating the workshop you would like to attend, and we will try to find a solution to your request!

Registration

Please use the registration form for all courses and workshops. The registration deadline is seven days before the workshop begins. IMPORTANT: If you register for one of our workshops at short notice, you will not automatically receive access to the OLAT course, where the location and other important information are communicated and all materials are uploaded. In this case, please be sure to contact us at schreibzentrum@uni-frankfurt.de so that we can send you the link and password for the OLAT course.
The registration form for our courses and workshops is released on April 1 for the summer semester and on October 1 for the winter semester.

If you are unable to attend the event, please cancel at least seven days in advance using our online form. You will receive the link to the cancellation page by email after registering. If you are ill on the day of the event, please send us a doctor's note. If you are absent without excuse or cancel at short notice, you will be blocked from all events in the current semester and will not be able to register for any of our workshops or courses in the following semester. To receive a certificate, participants must be present for 80% of the workshop time.
