Description

This offer is part workshop, part writing group and is intended for all students of the humanities and social sciences (Bachelor, PhD dissertation, Examen, Magister, Master).

A key aspect of this writing group will be giving and receiving feedback on your writing projects.

You will learn methods for giving effective feedback and this process will be guided. It is critical for writers to meet the needs of our readers, but it can be difficult for us to imagine or anticipate these needs on our own. (Questions we frequently ask ourselves during the writing process are actually about anticipating readers' needs, like: Have I made this point clearly enough? Does my structure make sense?) The peer-feedback process provides you with direct contact with your reader, helping you to make definitive progress in your writing project.

You will also be introduced to methods to support you as you write your thesis or final paper. These inputs will cover a wide range of topics: time management, narrowing a topic, developing a research question, dealing with and evaluating secondary literature, reading strategies, finding a structure, and revision strategies.

Requirements

Committed, regular attendance, independent engagement in writing groups, and a willingness to give others insight into your text project, even if you feel it is not yet “finished" or “good." The Schreibzentrum's workshops can be credited to you for the optional modules of many subjects. You will receive a certificate of attendance from us; the credit will be given in the subject itself.

Beschreibung

In einem semesterbegleitenden Format erlernst du praxisnah die Grundlagen des wissenschaftlichen Lesens und Schreibens. Alle zwei Wochen erhältst du ein Lernpaket, in dem Erklärvideos und praktische Aufgaben zu einem bestimmten Thema enthalten sind. Nachdem du das jeweilige Paket selbstständig bearbeitet hast, triffst du dich an einem festen Termin (ab 22.10. alle zwei Wochen mittwochs um 16 Uhr) um in einem bewertungsfreien Raum Feedback zu erhalten und Fragen zu stellen.*

Ideal ist diese Veranstaltung für Studierende, die in diesem oder im nächsten Semester eine erste längere wissenschaftliche Arbeit schreiben möchten.

*Weil wir aus Erfahrung wissen, dass digitale Seminare mit einem hohen Anteil an Eigenarbeit schnell überfordern und in Konflikt mit anderen Veranstaltungen geraten können, haben wir die Aufgaben so konzipiert, dass sie innerhalb von zwei Stunden pro Woche erledigt werden können und, wenn möglich, an die Inhalte anderer Veranstaltungen anknüpfen. So wollen wir dir eine Veranstaltung bieten, die nicht als zusätzliche Last empfunden wird, sondern dein Studium ergänzt und unterstützt.

Voraussetzungen

Diese Veranstaltung richtet sich an Studierende der Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften. Angebote für MINT-Fächer findest du im Schreibzentrum am Riedberg.

Dieses Tutorium richtet sich an Studierende ab dem 1. Semester. Voraussetzung für die Teilnahme ist die Bereitschaft, sich aktiv einzubringen, an eigenen Texten arbeiten zu wollen und diese ggf. in der Gruppe zu diskutieren. Ziel ist es, dem Tutorium den Charakter einer 'Schreibwerkstatt' zu geben.

Für die aktive Teilnahme an diesem Tutorium kann ein Teilnahmeschein ausgestellt werden. Mit diesem können auch Creditpoints (z.B. Optionalmodul in der Germanistik und Romanistik) erworben werden. Die Anrechnung erfolgt in den Fächern selbst.

Beschreibung

Diese Gruppe steht allen Studierenden offen, die Spaß am kreativen, literarischen Schreiben haben. Ganz bewusst widmen wir uns hier der Arbeit an und dem Austausch über private, kreative Schreibprojekte, um in einer wohlwollenden, positiven Atmosphäre Anerkennung und konstruktives Feedback zu erfahren.

In unseren Treffen werden wir über verschiedene Aspekte des kreativen Schreibens sprechen, darunter z.B. Plot, Charaktere und Setting, gendergerechte Sprache und der Umgang mit Diversität in (fiktionalen) Geschichten, verschiedene kreative Genres (z.B. Lyrik, Prosa, Fanfiction…), etc. Die Inputs sollen von den Teilnehmenden selbst gemäß eigener Interessen in Impulsvorträgen (15-30 Minuten) vorgestellt werden und als Grundlage für Diskussion und Austausch dienen. Anschließend an den Input wird es Schreibphasen geben, in denen an eigenen Texten gearbeitet werden kann. Außerdem besteht regelmäßig die Möglichkeit, eigene Schreibprojekte vorzustellen und auf Wunsch Feedback von der Gruppe zu erhalten.

Ziel der Schreibgruppe ist es, eine ständig wachsende Toolbox zu erstellen, gefüllt mit Themen, Strategien, Literatur und vielem mehr, auf die immer wieder zugegriffen werden kann. Möglicherweise können einzelne Tools nicht nur das kreative, sondern ebenso das akademische Schreiben fördern.

Description

At first glance, academic writing does not offer much room for creativity. There are strict rules to follow, and we are constantly exposed to judgement by professors or peers. We sometimes focus too much on the perfect outcome, the perfect text and occasionally get stuck in unhealthy behavioral patterns and mental one-way-streets. If we cannot find a way out of these patterns, they can result in fatigue, writer's block or even a fear of writing.

Including creative writing methods and exercises into your writing process might sound like extra work, but if you learn to use the right methods, they can actually make writing easier. In this workshop, you will learn why creativity is an essential part of your academic writing project and how it can improve your writing process.

We will talk about your experiences with writing of any kind, learn about familiar and new methods and take a look at creative writing as a hobby and how it connects to academic writing. You will learn about creative aspects of composition and argumentation and about personalizing your writing process.

Description

English academic style is complex, but there are basic rhetorical principles that, once learned, can greatly improve both your writing and your confidence in writing. This workshop introduces participants to the concrete principles that determine qualities like clarity, cohesion, and flow in academic prose. We will also briefly address common grammatical errors that often interfere with clear writing. In addition to analyzing the style of exemplary academic texts, participants will have the opportunity to apply what they've learned to their own writing.

This workshop will take place in English, make use of exclusively English-language materials, and be taught by a native English speaker (a U.S. American).
